Despite the fact that vampires are overused in today’s pop culture, FX’s What We Do in the Shadows manages to entertain. This American mockumentary series follows a tight-knit trio of vampires, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), who live together in Staten Island.
It is based on the New Zealand mockumentary film by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement from 2014, which is itself based on their mockumentary short film from 2005. Nandor’s human underling Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) and their energy vampire roommate Colin Robinson are also featured in the show (Mark Proksch).
Since the Emmy-nominated series is returning for a fourth season, here’s everything we know so far regarding Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows.
The first two episodes of Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows will air on FX on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10 p.m. EST. The next day, they’ll be available to watch on Hulu. The season finale date has yet to be determined.
The number of episodes in Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows has yet to be confirmed. However, because the previous three seasons each had ten episodes that were less than thirty minutes long, Season 4 will very certainly include ten episodes that are less than thirty minutes long.
WWDITS’ fourth Season is set to have Mark Proksch, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén, and Kayvan Novak reprising their roles. Nadia’s doll and Kristen Schaal will also be back.
Colin was reincarnated as a baby with a grown man’s head at the end of Season 3, and executive producer Paul Simms has already stated that Colin will remain a baby with a grown man’s head in Season 4.
In Season 4, Proksch and Simms discussed the type of parent Laszlo would be.
Simms, on the other hand, went into greater detail on what kind of dad Laszlo may be: Yet, at the same time, I believe Laszlo has developed some kind of affection for Colin, despite having to show him a nice time during what he felt were his final moments on earth. Laszlo is due to travel to England, but he stays behind since there are beings who require immediate attention, and he feels obligated to do it. He’s also likely to be interested in the nature vs. nurture experiment from a scientific standpoint. Is he capable of transforming Colin into a different creature than he was before?”
One thing is certain: caring for Baby Colin Robinson will be difficult. “Ten minutes with a crying baby and he’ll be regretting tossing his only helper into a coffin,” said fellow executive producer Sam Johnson.
Mark Hamill, Dave Bautista, and Tilda Swinton, to name a few, all had high-profile guest appearances in the previous three seasons of What We Do in the Shadows, so anticipate more of the same in Season 4. “A couple of special ones that are on our wishlist that might pop up in Season 4,” Simms promised at a press roundtable at New York Comic Con in 2021.
Meanwhile, Iggy Pop, William Shatner, Lisa Kudrow, Kristen Wiig, Catherine O’Hara, Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Amy Sedaris, and Sarah Michelle Gellar shared their dream cameos for the next season. If any of these high-profile celebs come in Season 4, only time will tell.
When was the fourth season of What We Do in the Shadows shot?
Season four of What We Do in the Shadows began production in September 2021. Harvey Guillén stated on Instagram three months later that Season 4 filming was complete.
Proksch told Deadline that filming sequences as a baby “would be done separately on green screen and other effects,” similar to the ending of Season 3. Simms went on to say that the baby at the end of Season 3 was created using “a combination of prosthetics, creating bodies [that] puppeteers operate, and some practical and digital material thrown in,” and that the crew will most likely use a similar approach in Season 4.
So what is the plot of Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows?
Though we don’t know much about the plot of What We Do in the Shadows Season 4 at this time, Simms did state in an interview with Collider in October 2021 that the stunning cliffhanger finale will be acknowledged.
Simms didn’t say where each character will be geographically, but the primary cast will most likely be back in Staten Island at the start of the season.
Season 4 will delve more into Guillermo’s ancestry, according to the executive producer in another interview (via Screen Rant).
According to this comment, Guillermo may have to choose between his vampire masters and his vampire hunting family in Season 4.
