The ‘Wrong Turn’ franchise began in 2003 and gave us six sequels afterward to the same. All the films had cannibals as the common ground of their plot, securing them a solid place in the genre of slasher films. The first three films take place in the woods and follow different groups of people who unknowingly get pulled into the abode of flesh-eating mountain men. The fourth and fifth films take a different route, set in a sanatorium and the city, respectively. However, the makers decided to bring it back to its original forest mountains, and the new film ‘Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation’ seems to stick to it. But this latest addition brings to the table a brand-new element- politics.
What we know and what we suspect
Directed by Mike P Nelson and starring Emma Dumont, Charlotte Vega, and Damien Maffei, ‘Wrong Turn 7: The Foundation’ tells the story of a group of hikers who stray off their path and encounter. As a result, some mountain dwellers are unwilling to shy away from doing whatever it takes to shield their community. In this film, we come across a mysterious organization named ‘The Foundation.’ Unlike the cannibals from any previous films that seem to have no other intention but to feed themselves, this one seems to be politically motivated. It is unknown whether the Founding members are cannibals or not, but they can be seen in a bizarre fursuit with masks made of animal skeletons in the trailer.

Better pray it works!
The film still looks like a promising gorefest like its predecessors but might include more sophisticated, calm, and calculated ways of killing. It is also possible that their victims will not be random but chosen carefully. As menacing as the plot sounds, the film is looked forward to by avid fans of the franchise since the last one that came out almost six years ago. This new angle, if successful, can lay the grounds for other films in the franchise that can make use of it to expand the storyline.
