“Five Days at Memorial” is not based on a true story.  Today’s debut of the dramatic new limited series, based on the same-titled novel, Five Days at Memorial’s new trailer offers a sneak peek at what to expect. The series recounts the events that took place within one hospital in New Orleans, most of which is too horrible to understand.

It documents genuine events that happened during the impact and aftermath of Storm Katrina, a hurricane that ravaged the American gulf coast in August 2005. The new trailer, which was unveiled one month before the start of the series, provides a brief glimpse of the horrific incidents that occurred at the New Orleans Memorial hospital and how the crisis stretched the hospital’s staff to the breaking point, resulting in death, destruction, and unrelenting grief.

The focus of the program will be the lives of the medical personnel who, under intense pressure, must choose between preserving their own lives and those of others. Both during the aftermath and in the years that follow, when many of the hospital’s fatalities are called into doubt, the story will follow these personalities. The Memorial Hospital structure, both within its employees and the facility itself, will be pushed to its limits by the powerful storm and its subsequent floods to the relentless heat of New Orleans mixed with a lack of power.

Vera Farmiga, Cornelius Smith Jr., and Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones are the show’s stars. The series also stars Robert Pine, Julie Ann Emery, Adepero Oduye, Molly Hager, Michael Gaston, and W. Earl Brown in addition to these performers.

Academy Award winner John Ridley and Emmy Award winner Carlton Cuse are the creators of the new limited series. Both of them are the series’ directors. Cuse and Ridley are also the series’ executive producers and writers. Cuse, Ridley, and Wendey Stanzler are all the series’ directors. The program is produced by ABC Signature, a unit of Disney Television Studios. The first three episodes of Five Days at Memorial will run on August 12, 2022, and further episodes will air every Friday until September 16, 2022.
