GeGeGe no Kitaro- a Japanese manga of which an anime television series is about to be aired soon. The manga has been created originally by Shigeru Mizuki in 1960. The manga covers and popularizes the folklores and supernatural creatures associated with Japanese culture.
The manga introduced to the fanbase- yokai- a popular creature from Japanese folklore. Before receiving an anime adaptation, the series has been performed on Kamishibai- Japanese street style storytelling.
The manga series has followed the publication in a Japanese magazine for young adults. Kodansha looked after the publication. The first volume appeared in 1960. With its last volume in 1969, the series has completed publication of a total of 9 volumes.
Its growing popularity has resulted in its anime adaptation, video games, and live-action content. Before the release of the anime film, let’s have a look at the storyline, for a better understanding. The story introduces us to adventures and action, alongside many mythological Japanese characters. The main lead is Kitaro, who is the last survivor of his tribe- the Ghost Tribe. The anime television series will cover Kitaro’s life adventures, as he will try to unite the human world and that of Yokais’.
The movie will address the forgotten existence of Youkai in the modern 21st century. Almost 20 years have gone by in the modern era, the people don’t recall the youkai. Though there are incidents happening that can not be resolved by modern scientific knowledge. Suddenly, people begin to disappear and come back again.
The issue was addressed by a 13-year-old girl, who wrote a letter to Yokai, telling them the whole situation. When Kitaro got to know the whole picture, he enters into the picture to help, and balance the situation between humans and yokai.
When will the anime film KitarouTanjou: Gegege no Nazo is set to air?
The anime film is scheduled to air in 2023. There have been several anime adaptations in the past years. The latest anime release took place from April 1, 2018, to March 29, 2020. It aired on FNS (Fuji TV). The next production for the manga is going to be an anime film. Hiroyuki Yoshino has worked on the scripts and Go Koga will be directing them. Toei Animation studio will work on the animation style.
What will follow the plot of the anime film KitarouTanjou: Gegege no Nazo?
The film will take us into the depth of Japanese mythology. Introducing various characters, the film will be rich with folklores. As per the narration of the folktales- Kitaro will be seen dealing with monsters from different lands like- Yasha- the Chinese vampire, the Transylvanian Dracula IV, and other characters of foreign origin.
The anime will introduce to us many characters like- Medama-oyaji- a mummified Ghost tribesman. Nezumi Otoko- a filthy yokai, who hasn’t bathed in three hundred and sixty years. Neko Musume- is a quiet girl, who has a crush on Kitaro. Sunakake Babaa- an old yokai women, who manages anyokai apartment building. Konaki Jijii- an old yokai man, who lacks attention. Ittan Momen- a flying Yokai. There are other characters also like- Nurikabe, Nurarihyon, and Back Beard.
What color will be given to Kitaro is to be revealed in the movie. There are doubts about the character of Kitaro- whether he will be shown in a positive light or negative. His adventures as he will deal with many ghouls will also be reflected. The film is a must-watch as it will give cover events about Japanese mythology, adding more interest to the anime.
