MK Ultra, a CIA thriller starring Anson Mount (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), and Jason Patric (Lost Boys), has been bought by Cinedigm for distribution in cinemas and on VOD this autumn.

The movie is based on the story of Project MKUltra. In the early 1960s, the CIA ran an illegal drug experimentation program with the purpose of creating processes and finding substances like LSD that might be used to weaken people during interrogations and coerce confessions through brainwashing and psychological torture. It follows brilliant psychiatrist Ford Strauss (Mount) as he is recruited to manage a subsection of the program at a small Mississippi mental hospital, where his professional and ethical boundaries are pushed.

MK Ultra stars Alon Aboutboul (Snowfall) and Jen Richards (Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches), and was written and directed by ex-intelligence officer Joseph Sorrentino. LB Entertainment’s Tom Rooker and Sigurjon Sighvatsson served as executive producers, along with Sorrentino, Jerry Tankersley, the late Seth Willenson, Andreas Schilling, Brian Mercer, and Lee Broda.

MK Ultra was represented by Josh Thomashow on behalf of Cinedigm, while Tenpastnine, LLC was represented by Willenson & Kevin Kasha.

“MK Ultra” will be released on October 15, 2022.
