Toxic Avenger Remake Is Finally On Its Way!

Many people remember the low-budget Troma film The Toxic Avenger and its sequels fondly, and over 40 years later, we’re getting one of the few remakes that might actually be excellent. The writer and director of this new Toxie has announced that filming on the picture has ended in Bulgaria, which is the kind of news that gets people excited in these days of stop-start productions.

Macon Blair made the statement on his Twitter account, as shown below, and it sparked some fascinating responses from the film’s actor Elijah Wood and Troma great himself Lloyd Kaufman, who seems to want a piece of the action in the film.

Wood co-stars in the Toxic Avenger remake alongside Julia Davis, Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay. Producers will be Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma.

The Toxic Avenger is a contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s low-budget action comedy hit The Toxic Avenger, which is steeped in environmental themes and subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool. When a struggling everyman is thrown into a vat of toxic waste, he transforms into a mutant freak who must transition from despised outcast to underdog hero in order to save his son, friends, and town from the forces of corruption and greed.

The Toxic Avenger remake was first revealed in 2019, and when Kaufman spoke to Dread Central about the film, he was one of the first to praise Blair’s pick as writer and director.

Macon Blair is more knowledgeable about Troma than he is, according to Kaufman whohad only praise for the man. He’s watched the animation, the Halloween special, and everything else. He said he’ll gladly assist if asked. He believes it will be fantastic if Macon Blair directs it. He understands Troma humour, which combines slapstick and sarcasm with an environmental subject.

There is no information on when the film will be released, or whether it will be published theatrically or on a streaming site, but it is likely to be released sometime in 2022 if all goes well.
