The seventh season of “United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell” will premiere on CNN Original Series. The Emmy(R) Award-Winning Series Returns This Summer on CNN on Sunday, July 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
In seven brand-new episodes, CNN Original Series follows comedian and political provocateur W. Kamau Bell on a cross-country tour of American towns as he investigates race, class, and the particular difficulties they confront. United Shades of America, a Zero Point Zero Production production with Bell’s trademark combination of empathy and humor, gives voice to individuals whose viewpoints are all too frequently excluded from the discourse.
On United Shades of America this season, Bell visits Appalachia to learn more about the significant but generally unrecognized Black American community that lives there; Going to Bell’s home state of California, which is rife with periodic wildfires, he investigates how communities have learnt to survive with this recurrent devastation; going to Boston to look at the mental health concerns impacting the sports industry; in New York City as he discusses Asian American representation in film and media, highlighting the similarities between his own experience and theirs; in Hawaii, examining how the island has been commodified by an exploitative tourism industry since the COVID-19 pandemic; in the Black Hills of South Dakota, examining the Laidback Campaign led by indigenous peoples in the area; and in Hawaii; and to Maricopa County in Arizona as part of his investigation into the definition of “weakness” and how the term has been entangled in the ideological fight about how American history is taught in schools.
