    Welcoming The Fans Of Lovecraft

On February 19th, 2021, fans of horror and gamers can get their hands on a new Lovecraftian horror game called ‘The Shore’, whose trailer has been recently released. Lovecraftian, a subgenre of horror, centres around fears of the cosmic terrors and the unknown. Named after famous American author Howard Phillips Lovecraft, this genre is limited to gaming, and has been adapted into books, TV shows and films. Some of his most famous horror fictions include ‘The Call of Cthulhu,’ ‘At the Mountains of Madness’ and ‘The Shadow over Innsmouth’.

    What to expect

The storyline of the game revolves around a prohibited island where the player, who plays the main character Andrew, can face mysterious entities. Andrew, who has lost his daughter and has reached that island in search of her, encounters and fights Lovecraftian monsters that seem as real as they possibly can on a screen because of the game’s excellent visuals. The trailer of ‘The Shore’ describes the island as “the calm before the storm” and gives the viewers a glimpse (through first-person perspective) of the place that looks spellbinding yet carries with it a sense of impending doom.

Why Lovecraftian horror is so beloved in the gaming world

In the gaming world, Lovecraftian horror is a special category with, ‘Call of Cthulhu,’ ‘Darkest Dungeon’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened’ being some of the most famous games. Through his writing, Lovecraft has given the world many different and terrifying monsters to ponder over. They may all be fiction-based, but the genius of HP Lovecraft’s writing style makes them real enough for those who wish to escape to his made-up world sometimes. Incorporating this genius into video games allows fans to indulge in this alternate reality and emerge heroes.
