    Where To Watch “Asakusa Kid”?

The film Asakusa Kid, based on the memoirs of Japanese performer Takeshi Kitano (better known by his stage name Beat Takeshi) and the song of the same name composed by Kitano, will begin streaming worldwide on December 9th.

In the year 1970, the story takes place in Tokyo’s Asakusa area. Takeshi attends Asakusa France Za, a performance theatre renowned as the “shelter of strip show and comedy,” after dropping out of college. He becomes a student of Senzaburo Fukami, a great entertainer, and befriends a cast of talented and distinctive entertainers.

Takeshi Kitano’s life as Beat Takeshi is depicted in this coming-of-age film. Takeshi Kitano (Yuya Yagira) quits out of college in 1965 and enrols in the Asakusa France Za, a performance theatre. Senzaburo Fukami (Yo Oizumi), a great entertainer, takes him on as an apprentice. Takeshi Kitano must maintain an entertainer’s mindset not only on stage, but also in his daily life, according to Senzaburo Fukami.

Takeshi Kitano works alongside other apprentices to pursue his dream of becoming an entertainer. People are attending the theatre less and less as television becomes more popular, but Takeshi Kitano spends his adolescence with Senzaburo Fukami and other apprentices who are full of skill and distinct personalities.

Yo Oizumi portrays famed performer Senzaburo Fukami, while Yuya Yagira portrays Takeshi Kitano, a young actor studying in the hopes of becoming a successful entertainer.

Hitori Gekidan, a writer, film director, and comedian who made an appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony, wrote and directed the film.

The film’s trailer opens with a conversation between Fukami and Kitano: “What’s your talent?” “I enjoy jazz!” “Are you a jazz musician?” “I don’t talk; I just listen.” “Listen up and do something, you moron!” “I have to live with that guy, how’s that?” Fukami’s wife asks Kitano in another scene. “I respect you!”

Kitano responds with a laugh. Chiharu, a dancer, then picks on Kitano, asking, “Is it embarrassing to have the face of a teenager?” Kitano is then seen wearing heavy make-up for a comedy routine and is yelled at by Fukami, “Hey, moron!” True entertainers use their skills to make people laugh! You can’t just be laughed at; you have to make them laugh!”
