In the Christmas House, for many years, Bill (Treat Williams) and Phylis (Sharon Lawrence) had been married. Mike (Robert Buckley) and Brandon (Jonathan Bennett), their two adult sons, are invited to spend the two weeks coming up to Christmas with them to continue a long-standing family tradition. They’ll decorate the entire interior and outside of the family home as “the Christmas house” for the holidays.
Mike is a TV actor that can be seen on the show Handsome Justice. Brandon is a baker and the husband of Jake (Brad Harder), who also comes to visit. Following their divorce, Mike’s longtime neighbour and high school friend Andi (Ana Ayora) has returned to town with her kid Noah (Mattia Castrillo).
The Christmas House was the first Hallmark Channel film to feature a gay couple in a key role. Brandon and Jake’s relationship is totally acknowledged by their family and friends throughout the film. The fact that they are gay is not addressed in the film; instead, they are simply depicted as members of the extended family. The two men share a loving kiss following a private talk about their intentions to adopt a kid in one moment.
