Based on Sara Gay Forden’s 2001 book, ‘The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed”, this biographical crime film boasts of the most star-studded cast in a long time.
Lady Gaga stars as PatriziaReggiani, the main lead who was convicted for having orchestrated and assassinated her ex-husband and former head of the Gucci fashion house, Maurizio Gucci – played by Adam Driver. Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Jack Huston, Reeve Carney, Al Pacino are also part of this magnum opus.
Spanning over three decades wrought with love, betrayal, decadence, revenge, and culminating in murder, filming for this ultra-hyped foray into the Florentine house’s sinister history, began in late February 2021 and was completed by May. It is scheduled to be released on 24th November, 2021 in the US by United Artists Releasing.

House of Gucci: Filming locations
No surprises here. The movie is shot completely in Italy – the home of Gucci. The film is shot all over the country. Dreamily beautiful locations abound in this, otherwise dark drama. Rome, Milan, Como, Aosta Valley, Tuscany, Ossuccio, all feature in this drama. There is a remarkable amount of photographs available that were taken during the shooting of the film. All the actors, whenever spotted, were seen wearing fantastically retro clothes.
The locations for the shots deserve a closer investigation, don’t you think?
Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Aosta Valley, Italy
The first filming location was the mountain resort of Gressoney Saint-Jean, at the foot of the Monte Rosa in the northern region of Valle d’Aosta. This is supposed to replace St. Moritz, where the couple had four chalets. All the hotels in the mountain resort were used to house approximately 250 actors and crew, while residents were called in to help prepare the sets.
It was revealed that Adam Driver was a little shaky on the skis. Both he and Lady Gaga were spotted wearing ski suits – white and red, respectively. Much of the sets were built to give the 1970s feel, which is when the film is set.
Milan, Lombardy, Italy
The crew spent a couple of days in Milan – between 10th to 12th March, 2021. For those who don’t know, Milan has a key role to play in the story of the movie. Besides being the luxury brand capital of the world and Italy’s economic hub, Milan is also the base of the Gucci fashion house and the city where Maurizio Gucci was murdered.
Lady Gaga was seen walking along the entrance of the Via Festa del Perdaano, the scene of the crime. A few shots were also filmed near the Il Duomo, GallerianVittorio Emanuele, Piazza della Scala, near the main railway station, and also near the historic Cortina bookshop. Villa Necchi Campiglio is the scene of the funeral.
Lake Como, Italy
As evident in the trailer of the movie, a lot of the scenes were shot on and around Lake Como. Filming in this area took place between 13th to 18th March, 2021. In particular, most of the filming took place in Villa Balbiano.
It is the most beautiful villa on the lake, with six luxurious suites in the main building, a swimming pool, and a private dock. This villa is referred to as the ‘Italian Oppulance on lake Como’. This historic place belongs to Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, who had it built in the 16th century.
In the film, a big party was held by the pool. Lady Gaga was seen wearing a white lace dress with a matching jacket. Adam Driver arrived at Villa Blbiano already dressed in his movie attire.
A few shots were also filmed in Azzano – the scene on the scooter, and the most romantic scene in the whole movie where the couple engages in a sensual kiss.
Rome, Lazio, Italy
The wedding scene was shot in the Italian capital, specifically in the Jewish ghetto, at the church of Santa Maria in Campitelli. Although the real marriage was held in Milan. Lady Gaga was also spotted walking down Via deiCondotti, Rome’s most famous fashion street. The pop star was seen wearing a red fur coat as she walked past Damiani’s jewelry store, along with Al Pacino, who was sporting a beige suit and waistcoat.
