    Where Was Reminiscence Filmed

Joy developed the initial script for Reminiscence a few years ago. The noir-style picture is set in Miami and takes place in the near future. Global warming has had a geological and societal impact on the world. Rising sea levels have flooded coastal cities such as Miami, while temperatures have risen dramatically. People have figured out how to live during the night and hide during the day.

Nick Bannister played by the ever-so-charming Hugh Jackman, a private detective, has a machine that he runs as a side business. As an escape from reality, that machine allows users to revisit their experiences.

Watts, played by Thandiwe Newton, a coworker and friend, warns him not to fall in love with a new customer, Mae played by the stunning Rebecca Ferguson. When Mae vanishes, Nick puts everything on the line to find out what happened to her, even his own memories.

    Reminiscence filming locations

Only a few months before the coronavirus pandemic, director Lisa Joy Nolan cast the film in October 2019. As a result, the production crew avoided the problems that other films faced by taking extra safety procedures and, in some cases, suspending shooting entirely. From October 2019 to January 2020, filming was conducted in New Orleans and Miami, two cities which have served as the perfect backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters multiple times.

    Miami

Several parts of Reminiscence were shot on location in Miami, including the Port Miami Bridge and the Freedom Tower in the background. Miami is a coastal city in the state of Florida with one of the country’s most recognisable skylines. It is also a culturally and economically significant city in the United States.

As a result, many films and television shows are set in Miami and shot there. In Miami, films such as ‘The Tomorrow War,’ ‘The Godfather: Part II,’ and ‘Scarface’ were also shot.

    Miami

The movie is placed in a sort of dystopic, climate change ravaged Miami and we see the familiar Miami skyline especially wonderfully filmed in the beginning of the film and its watery and murky streets which have become that way due to flooding.

There are multiple instances where characters mention how the waves rushed in and many died in Miami. These watery streets are of course, not real but the rest of Miami is showcased in a grisly, dark fashion.

    New Orleans

Several of the most memorable sequences were shot at a shuttered Six Flags theme park in New Orleans, which closed in 2005 following the Hurricane Katrina devastation and has since been used as a film setting. Other action movies that have been filmed at the park include Jurassic World and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

    New Orleans

New Orleans is one of North America’s most culturally dynamic cities. It is noted for its distinctive culture, particularly in terms of music, cuisine, dialects and cultural events like Mardi Gras. There is also a booming entertainment business in the city.

New Orleans, dubbed “Hollywood South,” features a cutting-edge filmmaking infrastructure and a highly efficient entertainment workforce. Additionally, Louisiana provides a 40 percent tax credit for productions shot in the state. New Orleans was the setting for films such as ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘Captain Marvel’.

The swampy environment of both New Orleans and Miami is ideal for a science-fiction film set in a world where flooding has been caused by climate change. The noir style of filming along with dreary shots of a world which is constantly looking behind for any and all source of comfort really shows through the filming locations and the style in which the movie has been filmed. While the plot might be a little confusing, the filming and locations make for a magnificent viewing for the eyes.
