A trailer for Katie Holmes’ romance comedy Alone Together, produced by Vertical Entertainment, was made available today. The film, which is set during the epidemic, concentrates on a couple who are compelled to stay inside because they are double booked while the globe descends into anarchy. They also had the exceptional chance to meet someone new during a time when no one else was doing it, which may make for an amazing first date.

The teaser trailer transports us to a point in recent history to which we can all relate: the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when we had little knowledge about coronavirus, no notion how lethal it would become, and, worst of all, no idea how long confinement would persist. In the narrative, June (Holmes) is forced to form a friendship with a stranger after becoming stranded in an Airbnb. And as they become aware that they might be confined for more than two weeks, their bond grows closer.

Even though we all experienced that dark period, it appears from the teaser that Alone Together will attempt to draw some constructive lessons from it, despite the sporadic appearance of existential crises. Like most romantic comedies, the film will rely on the chemistry between its central figures to succeed, but it also includes some drama in the form of a surprise appearance.

Food critic June’s (Katie Holmes) preparations for a supposedly brief romantic journey upstate to avoid the plague in New York City are derailed right immediately when she finds that recently single Charlie has double booked her hotel. As June begins to realise that the first two weeks of the pandemic may just drag on a little, her boyfriend decides to stay in the city to take care of his parents, forcing her to prepare for the long haul.

Charlie and June take advantage of the abrupt change in their routines as the springtime unfolds around them and get unexpectedly close. While eating takeout in front of neon signs, they ruminate on their life ambitions, romantic interests, and veganism. Set against the constant background drone of all-too-familiar covid catchphrases on the news, the movie is a happy and surprisingly nostalgic love story. Alone Together, written, produced, and directed by Holmes, has all the hallmarks of early lockdown life—alcohol, video calls with best friend Margaret (Zosia Mamet), and overwashing all produce—but it never downplays the gravity of the pandemic, portraying losses, loneliness, and community spirit with tact and consideration.

All We Had, Holmes’ first feature picture to direct, was followed by Alone Together. But this time, the performer also serves as the screenwriter, making it her first auteur work. Even though Holmes had to wait six years before directing another major motion picture, it won’t take as long: The best-selling novel by Kathleen Tessaro will be adapted for the screen by the actor/director as Rare Objects. Holmes is slated to write, direct, and appear in another film.

The Alone Together cast also includes Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), Derek Luke (13 Reasons Why), Zosia Mamet (The Flight Attendant), Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel), and Melissa Leo in addition to Holmes (Frozen River).

Alone Together, a love drama written, directed, and starring Katie Holmes, will have its North American premiere on June 14 in the Spotlight Narrative section of the Tribeca Film Festival. Vertical Entertainment has acquired the North American rights to the movie. The movie will debut exclusively in cinemas on July 22 with a VOD launch on July 29 after that, according to Vertical.

Following June (Holmes), a food critic who heads upstate for a quick romantic trip to escape the plague in New York City, Alone Together shows how her preparations from the beginning go awry. She is horrified to find that the recently single Charlie has double-booked the Airbnb when she arrives before her lover John (Derek Luke) (Jim Sturgess).

June must prepare for the long haul when John decides to stay in the city to care for his parents because she now understands that the first two weeks of the pandemic may go a little longer than anticipated. June and Charlie take advantage of the abrupt change in their routines as spring approaches them and forge surprising intimacy as they discuss their shared goals, aspirations, and, of course, romantic relationships.

The cast of the movie, which Holmes produced alongside Yale Productions’ Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman, SSS Entertainment’s Shaun Sanghani, and Lafayette Pictures, is completed by Becky Ann Baker (New Amsterdam), Zosia Mamet (The Flight Attendant), and Melissa Leo (Measure of Revenge). Eric Broughton, Jennifer Broughton, Gregory Ruden, Anne Ruden, Jason Kringstein, Scott Levenson, Lee Broda, Colby Cote, Kade Thomas, Jackie Palkovicz, Michael Palkovicz, and Michael J. Rothstein are its executive producers. Rich Goldberg, Mitch Budin, Roman Kopelvich, Mitch Budin, Roman Kopelvich, Mitch Budin, Jennifer Broughton, Eric Broughton, Anne B

“We fell completely in love with the script as soon as Katie showed it to us. Levine and Beckerman said in a joint statement, “We knew we had to do this movie. “Although it depicts pandemic life in a contemporary manner, it is a timeless tale of joy and optimism.”

According to Vertical Entertainment Partner Jarowey, “Katie has crafted a heartfelt, relevant, and amusing Lockdown love story touching on common situations we all suffered with throughout the pandemic.” We believe moviegoers will relate to it on many levels because it is pure fun.

The Tribeca-bound political satire Land of Dreams, starring Sheila Vand, Matt Dillon, and others, was recently acquired by Vertical Entertainment, a global independent distributor established in 2012. Other upcoming films from the studio include Winona Ryder and John Gallagher Jr. in Eli Horowitz’s SXSW sci-fi The Cow; Aubrey Plaza and Theo Rossi in John Patton Ford’s Sundance drama Emily the Criminal; and Keke Palmer, Common, Gaius Charles, and Jonny Lee Miller in Krystin Ver Linden’s Sundance drama Alice.

On behalf of Vertical Entertainment, Jarowey and Tony Piantedosi negotiated the contract for Alone Together with Beckerman and Levine of Yale Productions and ICM Partners on behalf of the directors.

On July 22, Alone Together makes its theatrical debut.
