After numerous classics getting their television series in the last decade, including Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho-inspired Bate’s Motel, Adrian Lyne’s 1987 psychosexual thriller Fatal Attraction is now announced to get its dedicated television series. It is said to be produced by Paramount for their own OTT streaming platform Paramount+. This comes to light after Paramount has already announced numerous exclusives, all supposed to release on their platform, including a prequel to 2019’s Per Semetary and John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place II set to release of Paramount+ 45 days after the theatrical release.
The story we know
The 1987 feature film, starring Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, was about a Manhattan Lawyer played by Douglas who’s introduced to Alexandra “Alex” Forrest, an editor for a publishing company. They have an affair, which initially was mutually agreed to be just a fling, but things quickly spiral out of control when Alex begins to grow feelings for the lawyer. The film is about how a one-night stand becomes his bane as Alex starts stalking him and his family.

The old stories reimagined from a modern perspective
The new series will tell the story through a more modern lens emphasizing strong women, personality disorders, victim shaming and coercive control. Stanley Jaffe and Sherry Lansing, the original film producers are the Executive producers of the series. Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin Hynes are the scriptwriters on the project. Right now, we do not know a release date for the series, but the platform Paramount itself launches on March 4th. Other Paramount movies that will be released as series on the platform include the Italian Job, Flashdance, The Parallax View and Love Story, as announced in Paramount’s Investor Day presentation on Wednesday 24th February.
