Saban Films has debuted the trailer for an indie crime thriller titled American Sicario, from filmmaker Raja Collins. The synopsis for this makes it sound like a twist on American Gangster and Sicario, about a crime boss in Mexico originally from America. It’s based on the true story the first America’s most dangerous drug trafficker, covering from his ascendance to his downfall – tale of power, money, greed and betrayal amongst rival members of the drug cartels.
The story follows Erik Vazquez aka La Munequita originally from Dallas, Texas, who was a high-ranking lieutenant of the Feliz Cartel and led his team into a bloody, vicious and never-ending drug and turf war that resulted in the deaths of thousands. He had a moral code; never kill women or children and always protect your family.
Later, he become the top dog in the Mexican underworld, only to find himself making enemies out of both the powerful cartels and his own allies even as his marriage to the pregnant Gloria deteriorates before his eyes.
While running things underground, though, he inadvertently clashes with other drug cartels, sacrificing even his allies in the process. Unfortunately, the trailer makes the film look extra dumb, as if it only has scenes of men shooting guns and yelling and not much else.
The screenplay is written by Rich Ronat. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Philippe A. Haddad will be starring as Vazquez, with Trejo set to play the father of the drug lord’s partner, who will be played by Cali Morales. Maurice Compte, Maya Stojan, Dionysio Basco and Jaylen Moore makeup the rest of the ensemble for American Sicario, which has now started shooting in Nevada.
