Set in 1955, Matilda, a Jewish lady, is eventually released from prison after being convicted of murder. Season 1 is a flashback to Matilda’s past while she navigates her way through the present. Matilda, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, fell in love with and became pregnant with a man named Mumtaz, whom her father trusted and who worked for him.
Matilda’s family, however, was deceived when Turkey enforced the Wealth Tax, and her father and brother were forced to work in a labour camp, where they perished. When Mumtaz realised it was her fault, she killed him, leaving her child orphaned as she served her time in prison.
She is now attempting to make amends with her adult daughter, despite the fact that the ghosts of her past continue to haunt her. Rasel, her daughter, follows in her mother’s footsteps by becoming pregnant by her lover, a Muslim man named Ismet. She decides to flee to Israel with her fiance after realising that their love will never be acknowledged.
Matilda, on the other hand, is always at odds with Celebi, the owner of the club where she is compelled to work in order to pay off her daughter’s debt. Season 2 will very certainly focus on Rasel’s journey as Matilda tries to find her own place in the world after discovering that she is once again without a family.
Salih Bademci, Baris Arduc, Murat Garibagaoglu, Metin Akdülger, Valeria Lakhina, Merve Seyma Zengin, Doganay Ünal, Firat Tanis, Istar Gökseven, Ilker Kilic, Asude Kalebek, and Sezer Aricay will most likely reprise their roles in Season 2.
The past never completely abandons you, no matter how far you run. It is a part of who you are, as unfortunate as it may appear. That does not, however, imply that it defines you. Matilda, played by Gokce Bahadir in ‘The Club,’ may have had a tumultuous past, but she perseveres in trying to make atonement, despite the fact that it still haunts her.
