History repeats itself. Almost 20 years ago, Fox launched one of the first most popular American reality dating game show titled “Joe Millionaire” which saw a group of women try and draw the eye of a man who was said to be worth millions. Debuted on television in 2003, the series was a unique take on The Bachelor, but with a couple of key differences.
The original season featured a group of single women who competed for the affection of an eligible bachelor who was promoted as being a high-powered millionaire. However, the twist was that the man, Evan Marriott, was not actually a millionaire but in fact a construction worker.
The show made a splash during the reality TV boom of the early aughts — and now it’s coming back as the channel have decided to revive the program and create the spin-off Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer, which has a similar concept but gives it a modern twist.
The new series features 20 women who will vie for the affections of a particular suitor, except this time there are two ‘Joe’s’ with one HUGE difference. One’s a multi-millionaire, and the other is definitely NOT. They will date both men but have no idea who’s the real “Joe Millionaire” and who’s just the average Joe. As love connections are made and each guy finds his perfect match, the women must ask themselves what is more important…Love or Money?
Based on the first teaser, it seems there will be another butler presiding over the affair. (Paul Hogan undertook that role in the original.) The contestants will seemingly stay in a lavish estate, and there will be at least one horseback ride. Throughout this series, the men, women and audience alike will be wondering if love or money will come out on top in the all-new two-hour “2 Joes Are Better Than 1” series.
The cast for Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer was revealed ahead of the show’s release, and the two ‘Joe’s’ are CEO’s Kurt Sowers and Steven McBee. The names of the women set to appear on the show have also been announced, they are known by just their first name on the show, and they include: Amanda, Amber, Andreea, Annie, Breanna, Brookell, and Carah.
