Lloyd Kaufman Says Toxic Avenger Remake Script Is Better Than the Original

Horror-comedy, a sub-genre that is deeply enjoyed by fans of films that give them the creeps while hitting their funny bone, has seen many successful projects such as ‘Zombieland’ and ‘Shawn of the Dead’. One of the older films that fall under this sub-genre is the 1984 cult classic ‘The Toxic Avenger’. Although the film was low budget, it was quite the hit with having four sequels released afterward. Marvel had comics of the same released from 1991 to 1992.

    About the film franchise

Centred around the protagonist that turns into a monster-like creature after a freak accident and acting as a somewhat predecessor to Deadpool, this superhero spoof is now all set to make a comeback with its reboot, announced in December 2018, with Kaufmen and Herz to serve as producers and Macon Blair as director and writer.

    A fan-favourite onscreen

After fulfilling the beloved role of Tyrion Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones,’ Peter Dinklage is now onboard with Troma Films to star in this new reboot of ‘The Toxic Avengers.’ Fans of the actor are bursting with joy at the news and are very excited to see him onscreen again after his last role. Dinklage has previously starred in Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity Wars’ as Eritri, who played an important role in defeating the villain Thanos.

    What to expect

In recent interviews, Lloyd Kaufman made clear to eager fans that the new script is even better than the original. This can be a refreshing change, considering the vast generation gap between the original and the reboot. Films have drastically developed over the years with better VFX and plot lines, and become more engaging for their audience. Perhaps, a newly fashioned, better-written script will serve as the key to the film’s success in the present day.
