Where To Stream “Single Drunk Female: Season 1”?

It’s not easy to stay sober when you’re surrounded by alcoholics, as the protagonist character of Single Drunk Female discovered in the series’ double-episode launch on Thursday. The Freeform comedy follows Sam Fink (Sofia Black-D’Elia), a twenty-something alcoholic whose humiliatingly public collapse within the first few minutes of the season set a new low.

She lost her job after showing up drunk, was sentenced to rehab and community service after unintentionally striking her former boss in the eye with a phone, and returned to live with her domineering mother Carol (Ally Sheedy). Sam’s sober journey began with a couple of setbacks after a 30-day stay in rehab. She ignored the court-ordered AA meetings and dismissed Olivia’s (Rebecca Henderson) offer to be her sober coach, believing she could handle it on her own.

After getting drunk with her childhood friend Felicia and driving her mother’s car into a party bus rented by her childhood friend Brit (Sasha Compère), who is marrying her ex-boyfriend, she gets a tremendous wake-up call. Sam was only detained for one night, but he was sentenced to 250 hours of community service and was compelled to attend driver’s education lessons.

However, one more blunder and she’d be back in jail. Carol, Sam’s mother, has a tense connection with her daughter. Carol gave Sam a glass of wine at the end of the first episode and became enraged when he declined, claiming that everyone drinks wine at night because “it’s hard to be a person.” Sam learned in Episode 2 that her mother was seeing a man from her spiritual book club and that this was the reason she wanted her to move out.

Carol’s harsh criticisms and unwillingness to take Sam’s sobriety seriously will undoubtedly be a source of friction between the two. Carol took issue with Sam calling her alcoholism an illness during their discussion about drinking because Sam’s father died of leukemia. Despite this, Sam established a small network of support outside of his family.

That includes Olivia (who is also a Peabody Award-winning podcaster) and James, who is also sober, and the man she hooked up with last Thanksgiving while drunk. Her new supervisor, Mindy (Jojo Brown), agrees to keep an eye on her on Olivia’s behalf and has no qualms about holding Sam responsible for her conduct. Sam is adamant about staying on the straight and narrow, but the first few episodes make it evident that her trip will be full of ups and downs.

After being tempted to drink in Episode 2, she called James for moral support and learned that sex is forbidden for the first year. She even started paying off her $5,000 debt to Brit for smashing into the party bus with her first sober payday. However, after sending the money, she dropped her phone and damaged the screen.
