Horror fans rejoice as the tenth installment of the Friday the 13th franchise is finally on Netflix. Starring Kane Hodder, Jason X was released in 2001, making it the official tenth addition to Friday the 13th. The plot skips ahead by 445 years as Jason stays ‘cryogenically frozen’ and is then woken up by a group of students. It is a movie set in outer space, onboard a spaceship which provides some contrast to the previous movies of the franchise. The symbolic hockey mask from the previous movies has also been replaced by a new futuristic contraption.
How this film’s plot sets it apart from the rest of the Friday the 13th franchise
The R rated movie is the fourth and final appearance of Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees. Taking a big departure from the other movies in the franchise, this movie gives a sci-fi twist to the classic slasher franchise. Jason has regenerative abilities and is transformed into a cyborg. This version of Jason has been referred to as Jason X or even Uber Jason in some places. The film is set in the year 2455 after humans have contaminated and abandoned planet earth. They occasionally return to earth to research the civilizations left behind. It is during one such trip that humans from the future cross paths with Jason X.

The film was created only as a stop-gap movie which had its shortcomings
Interestingly, the movie was created during the film’s production, Freddy vs. Jason, which is now a sequel to this movie. During the late 1990s, when the development of Freddy vs. Jason, a crossover between Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, was paused and unable to move forward, Todd Farmer was the one who came up with the movie to retain audience interest in Jason’s character. Filmed between March and May 2000, it was released in 2001 in Spain and 2002 in the US. The film grossed over $17 Million, although it got mostly negative reviews from critics.
