Designed originally by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a fantasy game that first came out in 1974 and immediately became a fan favourite. Started as a tabletop game, it eventually was adapted into video game and even films. The first film adaptation with the same title released in 2000, followed by Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God in 2005, Dungeons and Dragons III: The Book of Vile Darkness in 2012 and the most recent addition coming in 2022 titled Dungeons and Dragons. The 2022 film started development all the way back in 2015.
Why the film’s development went on for so long
Later, in 2017, the film was moved to Paramount, Sweetpea Entertainment and Allspark Pictures and was supposed to release in November of this year, but due to many arising complications with the rights to the film, the change of director and selection of scripts, it has now been scheduled for a May 2022 release. As the development continues, more cast members join the team and after recent reveal of stars officially confirmed including Regé-Jean Page, Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Sophia Lillis and Ansel Elgort, we now know that Hugh Grant will also be joining and that too, in the role of a villain.

A little about the original film adaptation
The upcoming Dungeons and Dragons is supposed to be based on the original tabletop game and a reboot of the film series, with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley directing. Dungeons and Dragons (2000) was set in the Empire of Izmer that is ruled by The Mages, leaving the common man suffering. Although Savina, the empress of Izmer wishes for equality and fights for the same, she must go up against Mage Profion whose intentions are exactly the opposite. Savina then puts together a team of fighters who may be able to help her get to Rod of Savrille and consequently, liberate the kingdom. The film was full of action and adventure and the 2022 film may have a good chance at outshining it, given the newer technologies available for cinema today.
