After 40 Years, Halloween II Still Has Tricks Up Its Sleeve To Scare Us, Courtesy Of A Rare Deleted Scene

Rick Rosenthal’s 1981 slasher classic Halloween II has been a cult favourite for 40 years now. Made as a sequel to the 1978 original Halloween movie, Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence did star as Laurie Strode and Dr Sam Loomis. Picking up right after the end of the first movie, the film was a massive success at the box office, grossing over $24 Million and giving rise to two more sequels which weren’t originally planned. Later, it would take the form of a full franchise with a total of 13 movies including multiple remakes and reboots.

Thanks to the TV release edit, a lot was changed

The film follows Laurie Strode at the hospital where the first movie ended, with Michael still trying to kill her. After discovering that Laurie and Michael are siblings who were put up for adoption after the death of their parents, the US Marshal is forced to take Dr Loomis to the hospital. Loomis knew that Michael will not stop until he succeeds in killing Laurie and only hopes to arrive in time to tell him about his new discovery to stop him. The US Marshal and Dr Loomis arrive in the nick of time and end up shooting Michael five times to stop him. Michael falls down and when the Marshal tries to check if he’s dead, Michael gets up and slashes his throat. This specific scene with some other scenes of graphic violence was heavily edited for TV.

How did the Marshall die exactly?

The throat-slashing scene was edited to look like Michael stabbed the Marshal in the back but fans with keen eyes have uncovered something that reveals new information about the movie decades after its release. The wound, as shown in TV, along with not looking anything like a stab wound, was a hole in the chest of the Marshal with smoke coming out of it. This scene was clearly made to depict Michael using the Marshal as a human shield while Dr Loomis shot him. The editing of the scene is haphazard at best and the end product shows neither Dr Loomis shooting nor Michael stabbing him. This caused speculations over the years about the actual scene that was created, with a specific YouTuber reconstructing the scene as created.
