The New Buffy The Vampire Slayer Show Would Be Better Off As A Revival And With The Absence Of Whedon

After actor Ray Fischer (Cyborg from DC’s Justice League) famously accused director Joss Whedon of abusive behaviour on sets of 2017’s Justice League, it sent the whole world, especially Twitter, in a frenzy. Fischer accused Warner Bros. for enabling Whedon’s behaviour as well and people began to publicly take sides, with some defending Whedon and Warner Bros. and claiming that Fischer cannot produce any proof for his claims, while others taking a stand for Fischer by sharing similar experiences from working with Whedon themselves. The cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was among the latter as actor Charisma Carpenter, who plays Cordelia on the show, also spoke out.

How Whedon’s deeds have managed to put a dent on many careers and projects

Carpenter shared her experience of working with Whedon and claimed that she experienced the toxic and abusive work environment created by him first-hand. Soon, Carpenter’s Buffy co-stars came out in her support including Sarah Michelle Geller who played the lead role. In 2018, it was announced that the show will be getting a reboot but even today, its status is unknown. Given the weightage held by Geller in the show’s success, it would be best if they tried reviving it instead. Plans of casting a lead of a more diverse ethnicity are in place, but not bringing back Geller as Buffy, even if not as the leading lady, might just prove to be a grave mistake that causes the new show to fail. Geller has been vocal about the disgrace of director Whedon, claiming that although she is proud to have brought Buffy to life, she would prefer never being associated with Whedon.
