Along for the Ride is based on Sarah Dessen’s young adult novel of the same name. Dessen has written 15 books in the category, many of which have been named “Best Fiction For Young Adults” by the ALA(American Library Association). Dessen received the Margaret A. Edwards Award from the American Library Association in 2017, which recognizes authors that have made a “significant and lasting contribution to young adult fiction.”
Along for the Ride will be adapted by Sofia Alvarez, who wrote the screenplays for To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its sequel, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You. Alvarez will also direct the film, marking her directorial debut.

Russell’s Quik Stop on Wrightsville Avenue, Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park, and the New Hanover County Courthouse were among the locations used on the mainland.
Newcomers Emma Pasarow as Auden and Belmont Cameli as Eli (whom some may recognize from the Peacock’s revival of “Saved by the Bell”) lead the cast. There is also a slew of veteran actors, including Kate Bosworth, who played the lead surfer girl in “Blue Crush,” Dermot Mulroney, who played Auden’s father in “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and South Carolina native Andie MacDowell, who played Auden’s mother in “Groundhog Day” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”
