The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a forthcoming American black comedic action film directed by Tom Gormican and co-written by Kevin Etten. Playing a fabricated and fictionalized version of himself in the film is Nicolas Cage, which also has Pedro Pascal, Sharon Horgan, Ike Barinholtz, Jacob Scipio, Lily Sheen, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish in supporting roles.
In the new teaser for “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” Nicolas Cage plays himself. The film follows a debt-ridden Cage as he accepts a $1 million invitation to attend the birthday party of a billionaire super-fan (Pedro Pascal) in Spain. When things go wrong, and he’s recruited by the CIA to help carry out an operation, Cage must take on the roles of some of his most famous on-screen characters to save himself and his family.
“The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” directed by Tom Gormican, also features Tiffany Haddish, Sharon Horgan, Lily Sheen, Jacob Scipio, Ike Barinholtz, Neil Patrick Harris, and Paco León. Gormican and Kevin Etten wrote the screenplay, which he also produces alongside Mike Nilton, Nicolas Cage, Kristin Burr, and Kevin Turen.
Nick or Nicky Cage, the fictitious version of Cage, is “feeling dissatisfied and struggling with the rejection that may happen so often in the little town that is Hollywood,” according to Cage.
“While I wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of playing myself, Nicky reminded me a touch of Jerry Lewis’ Buddy Love in ‘The Nutty Professor,'” Cage added. “I’ve always respected what he accomplished with the film. Nicky, in my opinion, steals the show.”
While early audiences have praised “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” Cage told Collider in September that he will never see it. “Going to a movie theatre to watch me play Tom Gormican’s highly neurotic, anxiety-ridden version of me is just too much of a crazy trip for me.”
Saturn Films and Burr! Productions produced the film, which is being distributed by Lionsgate. The film is going to be revealed on April 22, 2022, although the original release date was slated for March 19, 2021. It will make its debut at the South by Southwest festival in 2022.
