Night Of The Living Dead: New Addition To The Living Dead Family!

The third film in the ‘Night of the Living Dead’ zombie film series was released in 1985 and titled ‘Day of the Dead.’ The film was directed by George A. Romero and bagged a whopping $34 million. ‘Night of the Living Dead’ was one of the first zombie films that left the audience not just scared but somewhat in love with the genre. Today, there are uncountable such films in almost every country with, the most popular ones being the ‘Resident Evil’ series, ‘Train to Busan’, ‘Zombieland’ and many more. The second movie in the ‘Living Dead’ series, ‘Dawn of the Dead,’ even got a famous comedy spoof, which also served as a semi-serious societal commentary titled ‘Shaun of the Dead’ in 2004 became bigger than the original film itself.

    Syfy busy with the tribute

Recently, ‘Day of the Dead’ has been underway to pay homage to Romero’s film by cable channel Syfy. It is an American channel owned by the NBC Universal Television and Streaming division. With already successful shows running such as ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Helix’ and ’12 Monkeys’, Syfy just turn out to be the one thing needed to make this tribute work. The cable has already placed the order for a 10-episode series of a new take on Romero’s classic. Jed Elinoff writes the show and Scott Thomas, and four of its episodes are directed by Steven Kostanski.

    What to expect

The show will be featuring, like any zombie film, a group of strangers trying to survive the invasion of the undead. Official plot details say that this “ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.” Not much is known about the show’s details as of yet, but it can be said with surety that the show will have ties to the original film. However, this is not the first time someone has tried to pay tribute to this classic. In 2005, an unofficial prequel made it to the big screen, and in 2008 and 2018, remakes of the same were made directed by Steve Miller and Hèctor Hernández Vicens, respectively. Still, unfortunately, none of them gained much popularity or fans’ attention.
