Derek and Julianne Hough, Emmy-winning choreographers, and professional dancers will commemorate some of the most memorable performances in film in Step Into…The Movies, a one-hour program set to premiere Sunday, March 20 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC, in advance of the 94th Academy Awards. The event will air one week before the 94th Academy Awards, which will live on ABC on Sunday, March 27 at 8 p.m. EDT.
According to ABC, the performances will be inspired by films such as Singin’ in the Rain, Moulin Rouge, Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, and La La Land, and will be reimagined through a current lens. At a later date, the cast of singers, dancers, actors, and movie stars will be revealed.
“No one is better than Derek and Julianne to recreate great movie scenes through music and dance,” said Rob Mills, EVP, Walt Disney Television’s Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment. “Their brilliance is unrivaled, and their fascinating visual displays will captivate spectators at home.” And the star guests and surprises in the store are sure to make it a night to remember.”
Take a look inside… Done+Dusted is producing The Movies with Derek and Julianne Hough in collaboration with Walt Disney Television’s alternative production team. Executive producers are Derek Hough, Julianne Hough, Katy Mullan, Nick Florez, RJ Durell, Peter Hebri, and Ashley Edens.
Derek Hough, along with Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Toniolo, has been a judge on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars since 2020. Hough, the franchise’s only six-time champion, had previously appeared on the show as a pro-dancer. Beginning in May, he’ll continue his Derek Hough: No Limit engagement at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas.
Julianne Hough is a two-time Dancing With the Stars professional champion. She later went on to be a judge on NBC’s America’s Got Talent for numerous seasons and was also a judge on season 14 of the show. Hough has an extensive list of acting accomplishments, including Jolene in Netflix’s original anthology series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings and appearances in Disney’s Family Singalong specials.
