Pedro Pascal and Karen Gillan star as the principal characters in “Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem,” an action film in which they become stranded at a hotel after the pandemic halts production. In addition to Leslie Mann and David Duchovny, who plays a divorced acting couple forced to quarantine together, the film also stars Leslie Mann and David Duchovny. A meta teaser trailer for the fake “Cliff Beasts 6” was already produced by Netflix.
The comedy is said to be based on the real-life production of “Jurassic World: Dominion,” which was forced to stay in the United Kingdom for months due to pandemic-related delays.
“The Bubble,” like many of Apatow’s comedies, features a big ensemble cast. Apatow and Mann’s daughter Iris Apatow, Keegan-Michael Key, Peter Serafinowicz, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, Vir Das, and Rob Delaney star alongside Gillan, Pascal, Duchovny, and Mann. Along with the SXSW premiere “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies,” this will be Bakalova’s first American film performance since her Oscar nomination for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” in 2020.
The very first Apatow film to be distributed by Netflix is “The Bubble.” Universal Pictures released all of his previous films, from his directorial debut “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” to 2020’s “The King of Staten Island.” Apatow also produced and co-wrote the screenplay with Pam Brady, the creator of “Lady Dynamite.”
Once Netflix agreed to fund the movie, it was immediately moved forward, with production set to begin in early 2021. The goal has always been to be able to put together a cast that can compete with past A-list ensembles like that for The Disaster Artist and Knives Out, and Apatow appears to have accomplished that here.
