Ultraman Origins – This Psychotic Superman Burned His Parents Alive & Became An Instrument Of Death

Superman under Poison Ivy’s control, a Superman infected with Doomsday’s virus, a Superman whose pod crashed on Apokolips, and so on are all examples of DC’s attempts to make Superman into a briefly bad figure. With abilities like his and an evil heart, there is a lot of potential for a plot with a phenomenally powerful villain who outclasses his opponents by leaps and bounds.

With Ultraman, Superman’s perverted counterpart, though, this becomes permanent. Ultraman is a villain from Earth 3 who collaborates with the other perverted Justice League members. He has been an impediment to the Justice League and Superman we love and support on occasion.

We will go through Ultraman’s origins, skills, and allegiances in this video, as well as how he is both similar to and different from Superman.

    How Kal-II Became Ultraman

    How Kal-II Became Ultraman

Evil Superman or Kal-II is the last son of Krypton who crashed into Earth 3. Unlike the mainstream universe, Earth-3 does not have a distinction between good and bad. It is where evil is born. The countries are ruthless and strength is the parameter that determines everything. As a result, the Justice League that rules over this Earth i.e. the Crime Syndicate is a league with the evil counterparts of the original league.

The leader of this Crime Syndicate is Ultraman himself. A sadistic version of Superman.

Similar to Kal-El, Kal-II was born on a Krypton that was destroyed. His father, the malignant Jor-II, set certain events into motion that garnered the attention of the Anti-Monitor a.k.a. the destroyer of Krypton. This in itself contradicts the actions of Jor-El, who tried to rescue the Kryptonians.

The Anti-Monitor developed anger towards the race of Kryptonians and destroyed the planet. However, Jor-II managed to secure a life pod for Kal-II. Before Kal-II could die, he was sent towards the Earth or Earth 3 as Jor-II hoped for Kal-II to get revenge on the Anti-Monitor someday.

While in the life pod, Jor II’s recordings indoctrinated Kal II with morals and ideologies warning him to be the strongest living being by getting rid of his weaknesses. Kal-El’s greatest weakness was his love for humanity and Lois Lane whereas Kal-II was brainwashed against these ideals.

The pod crash-landed in Smallville, Kansas where Johnny and Martha Kent led a married life as a dysfunctional couple. Here, Kal-II obtained his powers from the remnants of Krypton that came with him in his pod. He forced the Kents to parent him. However, after he turned seven, he killed them, burnt the farm, and left.

He adopted the moniker Ultraman as he began his pursuits – murder of the President of the United States. He would eventually plan to take over the Earth and form the Crime Syndicate. Lois Lane also appears on this Earth as Superwoman, who has a dysfunctional relationship with Ultraman, while secretly having an affair with Owlman i.e. the evil Batman.

The one Ultraman was indoctrinated against, the Anti-Monitor, wished to destroy this Earth as well. This loosened the Crime Syndicate’s hold over Earth 3. As the planet was being destroyed, the fabric holding the universe weakened. However, the fabric only took a hit as a result of Darkseid’s actions in the mainstream Universe. This created a dimensional rift and the Crime Syndicate escaped. They were then trapped in a limbo for five years, including Ultraman.

    Ultraman’s First Comic Book Appearance

    Ultraman’s First Comic Book Appearance

In August 1964, Ultraman made his debut in the 29th issue of Justice League of America. Here, we are made aware of the Crime Syndicate in Earth 3 for the first time. The Justice League members, Ultraman, Owlman, Superwoman, Johnny Quick, and Power Ring are the supercriminals of this world. However, the ones trying to stop them aren’t. As a result, their battle instincts are getting dull.

Fun fact: In here, Ultraman’s powers are amped by Kryptonite, which is the very opposite of what happens to Superman. Ultraman gained his powers from Kryptonite and when he comes into contact with it again, he gains a new power. While committing theft, he picks up a Kryptonite and gains access to Earth 1, the place where their superpowered counterparts and our heroes fight evil with their abilities. He informs the Syndicate about this and with a well-planned strategy from Owlman, they head to the mainstream universe.

When the Justice League goes against the Syndicate, Flash finds Ultraman to be his opponent. He is able to dominate the battle initially, which catches Ultraman off guard. But when Flash hurls Kryptonite at Ultraman, the mineral breaks on his chest and gives Ultraman the power of heat vision.

Ultimately, the League members overwhelm the Syndicate members but are transported to Earth 3. The result is simple. The League members are more powerful in their own world while the Syndicate members dominate in theirs. To determine a neutral battle, the Syndicate proposes that they fight in Earth 2, oblivious to the fact that the Earth 2 heroes are preparing for the inter-dimensional threat posed by the Syndicate.

Ultraman In The Animated Movie – Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths

Ultraman In The Animated Movie - Justice League Crisis On Two Earths

Comics aside, Ultraman has seen the light of the day in other media as well. Namely, the animated verse.

Ultraman makes an appearance in the animated movie Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. While he is strengthened by the green kryptonite, he is weakened by blue kryptonite. To avoid being weakened, Ultraman destroys every piece of the mineral on his planet. However, Earth 3’s hero Lex Luthor has been going to the other Earths using the Quantum Trigger, a device that enables interdimensional travel.

We already know that Ultraman wants to kill the President and rule over the world. And that comes into light here as President Slade Wilson and his family become Ultraman’s prime target. Ultraman murders the First Lady with his heat vision and threatens her daughter Rose.

Ultraman is captured while Owlman plans to take over the Crime Syndicate by overthrowing Ultraman. He also plans to use the Quantum Trigger to go to the Prime Earth i.e. the first Earth and destroy it to erase the multiverse.

Meanwhile, good guy Lex Luthor had informed the Justice League in the mainstream universe about the Syndicate. Batman prevents Owlman from committing his atrocities and ultimately, President Wilson and the Marines arrest Ultraman, Owlman, and Super Woman.

Ultraman’s character has been voiced by Brian Bloom here, the writer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the voice behind Captain America in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Is He As Powerful As Superman?

Is He As Powerful As Superman

Being an evil counterparts of Superman, the two Kryptonians possess the same strength levels. However, there are some interesting differences.

    Physiology

Ultraman has gained his abilities due to the radiation of his planet. The remains of the Kryptonian radiation amped him up and gifted him with his physical strength. Kryptonite also powers him as his cellular structure absorbs and stores it to fuel his power. He can even eat the mineral by turning it into dust.

    Strength

Ultraman obviously has super strength, or in his case, ultra strength. He can literally move the moon and overpower Black Adam and an amped Mazahs. However, he has been given the L by the Lex Luthor in his verse and has only been able to make Anti-Monitor bleed.

    Ultra-Durability

Just like Superman, Ultraman is also a Man of Steel, unaffected by physical attacks. Lightning can make him bleed but he still remains unbothered by it. However, Anti-Monitor was able to kill him within seconds by blasting at him with a concentrated amount of antimatter.

    Stamina

Even though his inherent stamina is insane, absorbing greek kryptonite can power him up more and more.

He has speed that can rival the Flash (as you may already know from the famous Superman vs Flash speed matches). There’s also the obvious: he can fly, he can blow air with the force of a hurricane, has heat vision, X-Ray vision, ultravision, and microscopic hearing. He is not the type of a guy who could get myopia or go broke from having to spend a lot on flights and transport in general.

Some Lesser Known Facts About Ultraman?

Some Lesser Known Facts About Ultraman

There’s a lot more going on with this character which his debut issue does not gloss over.

There’s A Limit To How Much Kryptonite He Can Absorb

There’s A Limit To How Much Kryptonite He Can Absorb

Ultraman’s powers wane without his access to Kryptonite. However, older versions of Ultraman have a tendency to overdose on higher amounts of Kryptonite, which rendered him unable to fight. On the other end, newer versions of Ultraman tend to have an addiction to the mineral.

Mandrakk Had Transformed Him Into A Vampire

Mandrakk Had Transformed Him Into A Vampire

During the Final Crisis, he seemingly allied with the Supermen from the multiverse to defeat the Dark Monitor. This antimatter version of Ultraman was still not a good guy though and ended up being a traitor to his team. Later, Mandrakk, another Monitor, turned him into a vampire using the energy of the Bleed. This was done to warp reality and make Ultraman a servant.

If that wasn’t enough, on Earth-43, Batman turned every Justice League member into a vampire. This version of Ultraman led the Justice League of Vampires.

This wouldn’t be the only time that happened—on Earth-43, Batman managed to change all of the Justice League into a collection of vampires. This would include a different version of Ultraman, who was the leader of the Justice League of Vampires.

    His Weakness Is Yellow Sunlight

    His Weakness Is Yellow Sunlight

The very thing that powers Superman is the very thing that weakens Ultraman. Well, this wasn’t always the case since the older versions of Ultraman had no problems with yellow sunlight. However, without his weaknesses, Ultraman would be too invincible. So, the writers introduced a weakness in his physiology in the New 52 continuity.

Yellow sunlight breaks down the Kryptonite radiation in Ultraman, severely depowering him. To evade this, he pushes the moon to eclipse the Sun permanently when he lands on Earth.

    Ultraman Is A Coward

    Ultraman Is A Coward

Weakness to the yellow sunlight isn’t the only defect that Ultraman has in the New 52 continuity. He is also a coward. And no one knows about it.

During his journey to Earth, the recorded data of his father, Jor II, called him worthless. This affected his mentality, making him afraid of failure and being anything less than the most powerful being.

During one instance, Lex Luthor destroyed his source of Kryptonite and then exposed him to the yellow sunlight. This broke down his abilities and Ultraman sobbed uncontrollably since people now saw him as a weak being. You could say his biggest weaknesses are his daddy issues.

Ultraman’s story mirrors that of Superman’s, with emphasis on the word ‘mirrors’. As a result, even though their origin and powers are on the same spectrum, they are often each other’s opposites.

And with that, today’s video comes to an end. What did you think of Ultraman? Did you enjoy this video? If yes, then don’t forget to like and comment on this video. Till then, goodbye. And have a nice one!
