When Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell unleashed a brutal tale of Deadites and decapitation on the world in 1981, neither of them could have imagined that the Evil Dead would still be alive and kicking forty years later. When the documentary Hail to the Deadites is released On Demand this summer, it will bring back all of those memories and more.
Hail To The Deadites has already been shown at festivals, but it is now making its way into the homes of the series’ ardent fans. The documentary was made by Steve Villeneuve and includes interviews with Campbell and others involved in the production of the movies. It differentiates from otherdocumentaries byfocusing on the movie series’ hardcore fanbase rather than the films themselves. Hail To the Deadites seeks to explore into why and how the franchise continues to grow in popularity. It touches upon everyone, from the fans who make it so,a diverse team, collectors, and Evil Dead geeks.

Evil Dead has spawned two direct sequels and a three-season television series, as well as a reboot, comic books, toy lines, various computer games, and now a new film. One of the first films to be labelled with the “video nasty” label, which was applied to some of the most gruesome and frightening films of the 1970s and 1980s, helped solidify the film’s cult reputation and almost guaranteed its place in popular culture. In addition, although many of its contemporaries were pumping out new, often subpar films year after year, Evil Dead tended to go dormant between releases and only released quality gore.
Hail To The Deadites will be streaming On Demand and Digital HD on 27th July onwards. The beauty about this is that fans made everything you’ll see or hear in this documentary.
