Clive Barker wrote and directed the 1987 supernatural horror picture Hellraiser, which was produced by Christopher Figg and based on Clive Barker’s 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart. Barker made his directorial debut with this flick. The plot revolves around a mystical puzzle box that summons the Cenobites, a race of extra-dimensional sadomasochistic beings who can’t tell the difference between pleasure and pain. Doug Bradley plays the Cenobites’ leader, who is referred to as “Pinhead” in the sequels.
What are Cenobites?
The Cenobites are portrayed as asexual beings who have been ruined and mutated so terribly that they bear little similarity to the human form in the original book. When it comes to detailing the Cenobites, Barker is rather imprecise. They made their first appearance in The Hellbound Heart. The novel depicts the life of Frank Cotton, a hedonistic creep who is always striving for the next level of physical discovery, no matter how vile. Frank uses the Lemarchand Configuration, a puzzle box, to open a portal to an extra-dimensional realm where the Cenobites live, in order to get the most sensuous stimulation conceivable.The cenobites are twisted versions of their human selves and apart from Pinhead, some popular ones are The Female, Chatterer and Butterball.

Who is Pinhead?
Pinhead is originally a man named Elliott Spencer who was a World War I Captain He suffered the same fate as Frank Cotton after solving the Lemarchand Configuration. He subsequently became Leviathan’s servant, a deity that feeds on the misery and suffering of others and uses the Cenobites to find new victims. The principal Cenobite in the film was never given a real name in the first film, but actor Doug Bradley’s performance, as well as Pinhead’s facial grid, with a nail hammered into each junction, is a gory character design that has captivated fans and artists for more than three decades.
