Although America is known as the land of the free, it has always been a haven for criminals. Genuine anecdotes abound throughout the country’s true history of guys who have taken the legal system for a wild ride. Women, aside from being the Bonnie to these infamous gangsters’ Clyde, are frequently kept out of the tale. There have, however, been outliers, women who have become famous for not only ending up on the wrong side of the law but also for the type of capers they carried out.
The third season of BET+’s original series American Gangster: Trap Queens will premiere on Thursday, April 7th.
The real crime series, narrated by rap legend Lil’ Kim, returns with 10 all-new episodes (five will be accessible on 4/7; the remaining five will be available at a later date). The stories of Kimberly Smedley, Candace Wilson, Gina Cabell, Shontel Greene, and Tonia Taylor will be featured in the premiere episodes, and their crimes will vary from black market butt injections to dark web identity theft, opioid pill mills, and drug trafficking.
This season of Trap Queens will tell epic, sad, and important cautionary tales of women who are tempted by the underworld’s seduction and become ultimate crime lords. Viewers will see their ascension to a fantasy world of riches based on crime, followed by an unavoidable collapse as they are forced to confront the harsh repercussions of their deeds. The series tells each Queen’s riveting story through first-hand stories, archival film, and subtle recreations, providing a profound and visceral experience for viewers.
Judge Greg Mathis, the show’s executive producer, says, “Trap Queens combines outstanding narrative with the real-life adventures of female crime lords as they rise, fail, and seek forgiveness.”
Executive producers for American Gangsters: Trap Queens include Arthur Smith and Frank Sinton. Executive producers include Delete James and Jackson Nguyen. Co-executive producers are Andrena Hale and David Rock.
