Medusa, also known as Gorgo in Greek mythology, was one of the three grotesque Gorgons, who were characterised as winged human beings with living venomous snakes for hair. Those who looked into her eyes became stone. It is not until the first century B.C. that the snake-haired Medusa becomes widely known. The mortal Medusa is described by the Roman author Ovid as a lovely maiden captivated by Poseidon in an Athena shrine. The goddess was enraged by this blasphemy, and she punished Medusa by turning her hair into snakes.

With the film formerly known as Medusa: Queen of the Serpents, Matthew B.C. makes his feature directorial debut, based on a script written by him and producer Scott Jeffrey.
