Ximena Garca Lecuona’s film is a modern Gen Z coming-of-age drama about Kelsa (Eva Reign), a strong high school student who is trans, as she navigates senior year. When her classmate Khal (Abubakr Ali) develops feelings for her, he summons the confidence to approach her and ask her out, despite the potential for drama. The result is a love story that captures the excitement, sensitivity, and anguish of first love.
Orion Pictures, Andrew Lauren Productions, and Killer Films’ film also features Renée Elise Goldsberry.
Christine Vachon, David Hinojosa, Andrew Lauren, and D.J. Gugenheim produced the album, which also featured EPs Lecuona, Porter, and Allison Rose Carter.
Porter is an actor, singer, director, composer, and playwright best known for his Emmy-winning performance on FX’s Pose as Ball scene emcee Pray Tell. He also recently starred in Amazon’s live-action rendition of Cinderella, CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone, and American Horror Story: Apocalypse, as well as narrating HBO Max’s Equal docuseries. His Broadway highlights include playing Lola in the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, for which he won Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards, as well as a Grammy for Best Musical-Theatre Album.
In addition, the multi-hyphenate is poised to direct To Be Real, an LGBT adolescent comedy from Gabrielle Union’s I’ll Have Another production. It was only reported yesterday that he would feature with Luke Evans in filmmaker Bill Oliver’s custody-battle movie Our Son.
