HBO Max has just published a new teaser for Gordita Chronicles, its next comedy series that will launch on the streaming app on June 23. The new series will transport viewers back to 1985, when Cucu “Gordita” Castelli and her family embarked on a journey from their home in Santo Domingo to Miami, Florida, with the hopes of starting a new life in the United States. The series will track the ups and downs of making new friends, dealing with culture shock, and having to re-imagine the American dream that come with a long-distance transfer.
Is “Gordita Chronicles” based on a true story?
“Gordita Chronicles” is a work of fiction. Cucu’s marketing professional father Vctor, portrayed by Juan Javier Cardenas, her strong and lively mother Adela, played by Diana Maria Riva, and her status-obsessed elder sister Emilia, played by Savannah Nicole Ruiz, will all be included in the series. Olivia Goncalves portrays Cucu “Gordita” Castelli.
The new clip teases some of the Castellis’ shenanigans, including an incident with a rearview mirror, issues with wardrobe repetition, and the origins of Gordita’s moniker. The new teaser captures the glitz and glam of 1980s Miami, complete with wide-shouldered shirts, teased hair, and a rainbow of colors. The new series is expected to have the same upbeat tone as the first, telling the narrative of a family in transition.
