Plot- Caches of gold coins from the nineteenth century have been discovered buried on the desolate and gloomy island of Adak throughout the last century. The total worth of the pirate treasure, the majority of which has still to be discovered, is believed to be $365 million. Mayor Tom Spitler is collecting a team of seasoned treasure hunters to seek for the loot, which will be a difficult assignment given that Adak is strewn with unexploded WWII bombs. Fortunately, the mayor is well trained in bomb disposal — but will it be enough? They may get wealthy, but they may perish in the process.
The official trailer for Pirate Gold of Adak Island, a new Netflix documentary series about expert treasure hunters trying to unearth buried gold in order to rescue an island, has just been published. The teaser teases a few major finds, but it doesn’t say whether we should be hopeful that these skilled explorers will have better luck than the Fellowship of the Dig team from The History Channel’s The Curse of Oak Island. There have been nine seasons of that treasure-hunting show, and so far a lot of wood and antique tools have been discovered but not much gold or silver.
Adak Island has roughly 171 inhabitants in 2020, according to Google searches. The island used to have a major military presence, but today most of the people who live there work in the fish processing industry. Although Adak is strewn with abandoned businesses and residences, Alaskans believe that the military will return at some time to help the village recover.
