    Uncoupled, a new comedy from the How I Met Your Mother alum, will launch on Netflix on Friday, July 29. A teaser and first-look photographs were also released by the streamer.

    Uncoupled is an eight-part television series created by Darren Star (Sex and the City, Younger, Emily in Paris) and Jeffrey Richman (Modern Family, Frasier) that follows Harris’ newly single Michael, who “thought his life was perfect until his husband,” hedge-fund manager Colin (The Boys in the Band’s Tuc Watkins), “blindsided him by walking out the door after 17 years,” according to the official logline. “Overnight, Michael must face two nightmares: losing his sweetheart and suddenly finding himself a single gay man in his mid-forties in New York City.”

    Tisha Campbell (Martin) plays Michael’s business partner Suzanne; Emerson Brooks (The Last Ship) plays TV weatherman Billy; Brooks Ashmanskas (The Good Lord Bird) plays art dealer Stanley; and recurring guest star Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show) plays Upper East Side socialite Claire (Emily in Paris, Younger).

    This summer, Neil Patrick Harris will return to series television. Uncoupled, from Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, has received its first trailer, and Netflix has announced that it will premiere on July 29.

    The eight-part series follows Michael, played by Patrick Harris, who thought his life was perfect until his husband, who has been married to him for 17 years, surprises him by walking out the door. Michael had to face two nightmares in one night: losing what he thought was his soulmate and finding himself a single gay guy in his mid-forties in New York City.

    It’s from Emily in Paris creator Star and longtime Modern Family executive producer Richman, who are also executive producers alongside Jax Media’s Harris, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The studio is MTV Entertainment Studios, which has an overall arrangement with Star.

    NPH’s second Netflix series is Uncoupled. He previously starred as the wicked Count Olaf in the three-season series A Series of Unfortunate Events, which ended in 2019. He’s most known for his appearances as Barney Stinson on the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, which ran for nine seasons and concluded in 2014, and as the titular Doogie Howser, M.D. on the ABC dramedy Doogie Howser, M.D. in the early 1990s.

    Netflix and Darren Star have reunited for the new romantic comedy series Uncoupled, following their successful collaboration on Emily in Paris. Uncoupled is a Netflix original series set to premiere in July 2022. It follows Michael (Neil Patrick Harris), whose 17-year marriage is thrown into disarray when his husband walks out the door.

    Emmy Award won on many occasions Jeffrey Richman, who is most known for his work on Modern Family and Frasier, and Star, who won an Emmy for Sex and the City, are the co-creators of the show. “We couldn’t possibly hope for a more perfect home for Uncoupled than Netflix,” they said of their delight about collaborating with Netflix for this new series, which is significant to them personally as well: “We couldn’t hope for a more perfect home for Uncoupled than Netflix.” A gay starring male in a romantic comedy; it’s a passion project for us that feels both personal and universal.”

    Season 1 of the show will contain eight episodes and is produced by MTV Entertainment and Netflix. Along with Star and Richman, Jax Media’s Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns will executive produce. “We are pleased to be teaming with Darren on another fantastic new series,” Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s VP of original comedy series, said in a statement. Darren and Jeffrey have both successfully tapped into the global zeitgeist by developing characters and tales that resonate with audiences all across the world.”

    Episodes in the new show will be directed by Andrew Fleming and Zoe Cassavetes.

    Suzanne Prentiss, a higher-powered real-estate agent who is Michael’s business colleague and friend, is played by Tisha Campbell (Martin).

    Claire Lewis is played by Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River), an exquisite and affluent art collector who is currently divorcing her spouse. Emerson Brooks as Billy Jackson, a famous TV weather-man and one of Michael’s closest friends. Tuc Watkins as Colin McKenna, a successful businessman and Michael’s ex.

    Stanley James, an art dealer and one of Michael’s closest friends, is played by Brooks Ashmanskas (Julie & Julia).
