Fans of slashers like My Bloody Valentine and Valentine (2001) should look forward to Marcel Walz’s indie Pretty Boy, a Valentine’s Day-themed slasher that will have its World Premiere at Popcorn Frights, a South Florida-based horror film festival that will return to theatres next month from August 12-19, 2021.
Marcel Walz directed the film, which was based on a script by Joe Knetter (Blind; Desert Moon; Terror Overload; actor in Hanukkah). Oliver Diehm, Daren Hammer, Ivan Bernard Hruska, and Rudiger W. Kummerle produced the film. James Cullen Bressack is the executive producer.
The movie follows Pretty Boy, a masked killer who abducts a blind woman from her Hollywood Hills home and attends a Valentine’s Day party, where the bloodshed escalates as he runs amok with his butcher’s knife. Sarah French, Jed Rowen, and Devanny Pinn feature in the film.

Walz said that horror fans reacted well to Pretty Boy’s entrance in Blind and how disgusting he is, and that with that positive reaction to the first film, they then decided to focus more on the character of Pretty Boy. Blind was a slow-burning film influenced by 1970s horror, similar to the original Black Christmas. Pretty Boy is primarily inspired by the 1980s and is a love letter to all of our favourite slasher franchises from our youth!
Expect disco lights, glitter, a fantastic soundtrack, and lots and plenty of gore, as promised by the festival, while Walz also said that the movie is gory, humorous, and sexy!
Check out the first art and still from Pretty Boy, which is based on a character from Walz’s Blind (2020)! People are calling it a sequel to Blind but it is more likely a spinoff about the titular killer himself.
