    Jenna Welch Bush Hager identifies as a nonpartisan and claims she is not a Republican. Barbara Bush and Jenna Bush Hager stated in an interview from 2010 that they prefer not to associate with any political party and are rather free-thinkers.

    Bush is married to Henry Chase Hager. He is the son of John H. Hager, a former chairman of the Virginia Republican Party and a former lieutenant governor of Virginia and assistant secretary of education under the George W. Bush administration. She first met Henry while he was campaigning for the position of president in 2004. In August 2007, they couple got married.  When the two made an appearance together at a White House dinner for The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in November 2005, their romance came into the public eye. 

    Henry was a student of the St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Virginia from where he studied MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden Graduate School of Business Administration. He supported Karl Rove in the White House and Carlos Gutierrez at the U.S. Department of Commerce, respectively.

    Hager worked as a teacher’s assistant at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School for an entire year and a half before relocating from Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2006. As part of an internship for UNICEF’s Educational Policy Department in Latin America, mainly Panama, she took a leave of absence from her position at the charter school to work at a shelter and then after completing her internship with UNICEF she resumed her position in the charter school. At the SEED Public Charter School in Baltimore, Maryland, she worked as a part-time reading coordinator. She even provided a monthly news piece about education for the Today show.

    She is the author and coauthor of multiple New York Times bestselling titles such as Everything Beautiful in Its Time and Ana’s Story. Jenna along with her mother Laura also wrote twobooks for children named Read All About Itand Our Great Big Backyard. Her book Sisters First, written in collaboration with her sister was published in both adult and children’s editions.

    Hager started promoting a book idea in 2007 with the help of Washington lawyer Robert B. Barnett. The book, Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope, describes Ana’s experiences working as an intern for the United Nations Children’s Fund with UNICEF-sponsored NGOs in Latin America, including trips to a drought-stricken Paraguay in 2006. HarperCollins published the book in March 2007, and on September 28, 2007, it was made available to the public after an initial printing of 500,000 copies. Her portion of the proceeds will be sent to UNICEF, with the remaining funds supporting the young woman’s continued education by going to the woman whose life served as the inspiration for the book.

    NBC News has employed Jenna Bush since 2009 as a correspondent, contributor to Today, and anchor. NBC hired Hager in August 2009 to serve as a journalist and contributor for The Today Show.
