Netflix’s Kate is ostensibly a brand-new film based on an original concept. It’s not a remake, reboot, or franchise extension; it’s not based on true events or taken from existing source materials.
Kate is a film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan about an assassin named Kate who blows a mission in Tokyo and then realises she’s been poisoned by the Yakuza. Kate believes she has less than 24 hours to seek revenge on her killers as her body deteriorates, so she creates an unexpected bond with one of her prior victims’ spunky teenage daughter, who comments, “Kate, you’re like that person in a nightmare.”
She says, “Take no crap from no males.” “You’re a total badass, babe.” Tadanobu Asano, Miyavi, Michiel Huisman, Miku Martineau, Jun Kunimura, and Woody Harrelson are among the cast members.
The action film is also a “love letter” to Japan, according to Nicolas-Troyan. The Lawson convenience stores, vending machines, pop culture, anime manga culture, and music are all references to Japanese culture in the film,” he continues. The Different needle drops in the film are meant to honour Japanese female musicians of all genres, including metal, pop, ballad, hip-hop, and the bizarre.
This action movie is available for viewing on Netflix!
Kate filming locations
On September 16, 2019, filming began for this international spy, revenge film and it ended on November 29, 2019. Thailand, Tokyo, Japan, and Los Angeles, California were among the filming locations.
It only seems right to haver international filming locations when shooting a spy action film so lets explore all the different locations Kate visited in the course of her vengeance.
Thailand
Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia. It’s noted for its tropical beaches, rich royal palaces, historic ruins, and elaborate Buddhist temples. An ultramodern cityscape develops beside tranquil canalside communities and the famed temples of Wat Arun, Wat Pho, and the Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok, the capital. The bustling beach resorts of Pattaya and elegant Hua Hin are both nearby.
Thailand is leading in film production, equipment, technicians, and filming crew, all at a low cost, due to the competitive nature of the industry. The low cost of production in Thailand allows you to keep within your budget while yet producing a high-quality film.
Thailand’s natural splendour is definitely stunning. Thailand’s geographical qualities are diversified, with beaches, jungles, and mountainous regions. Because of this diversity, filming can take place in a variety of settings, and most regions are accessible via contemporary transportation.
Tokyo, Japan
From neon-lit skyscrapers to old temples, Tokyo, Japan’s bustling city, combines the ultramodern and the traditional. The grandiose Meiji Shinto Shrine is notable for its colossal gate and lush grounds.
The Imperial Palace is surrounded by extensive public gardens. Exhibits range from classical art at the Tokyo National Museum to a rebuilt kabuki theatre among the city’s various museums in the Edo-Tokyo Museum.
Japan is one of the most distinctive countries in the world, with its own history and character. Tokyo should be motivation enough to travel there, but a talented local crew and a film-friendly environment will keep you coming back. Never undervalue Japan’s appeal to an international audience.
From ancient temples to postmodern glass buildings, there is a wide range of urban and rural settings. Tokyo requires little embellishment to evoke an otherworldly mood in a science fiction script. Some of the most recent blockbusters, such as Avengers: Endgame, have decided to film there.
A majority of the movie was shot here since Kate makes her way through the streets of Tokyo to finally reach her enemy and exact her revenge. According to the director, the film is a love letter to Japan and we expect to see that in the movie as well.
Los Angeles, California
Hollywood, often known as Tinseltown, is a district in Los Angeles, California, United States, that is associated with the American film industry.
In every genre of cinema and television, generations of directors have included LA’s iconic architecture and breathtaking vistas. From science fiction and action to holiday and horror, there’s something for everyone.
This movie is no different either. The various locations should thrive in this action-revenge thriller and serve as the perfect backdrop to a badass female spy out on the hunt.
