David Cronenberg is famous for his film ‘The Fly,’ but in those days, he had also worked on other projects that contributed to the genre of horrors such as ‘Scanners’ (1981) and ‘Rabid’ (1977). In 2005and 2007, Cronenberg worked on two films with actor Viggo Mortensen titled ‘A History of Violence’ and ‘Eastern Promises.’ ‘A History of Violence’ is a crime thriller whereas ‘Eastern Promises’ is a thriller drama, and ever since then, Cronenberg never seemed to return to the horror genre. However, the two are working on a new project now, and the horror world might witness Cronenberg’s comeback.
What we know about this new project till now
In a recent interview, Mortensen told GQ that he is currently working with David Cronenberg once again after all these years, and this project will most certainly take the director back to his roots, referring to Cronenberg’s classic “body-horror type stuff.” He also said that the idea for this new project was always there in the back of Cronenberg’s head, but for some reason, it did not pan out earlier. With the story more advanced and more sophisticated filmmaking tools available, this could be made concrete. If the two succeed in laying a strong groundwork for the venture, they can start filming this summer itself, and if things continue to go in their favour, fans will have a new film noir by Cronenberg by 2022.

Mortensen and Cronenberg coming together has had a 100% success rate in the past
Viggo Mortensen has worked with some of the industry’s biggest names and on some of the most iconic projects ever. His first film with Cronenberg, ‘A History of Violence,’ tells the story of a small-town guy who confronts two robbers in his diner and, as a result, becomes quite famous all over town. On the other hand, ‘Eastern Promises’ revolves around a midwife who witnesses a Russian teenager pass away during childbirth and later finds her journal. In the notebook, she finds horrific accounts of her detailing the torture and sexual abuse she was subjected to by a Russian mob family.
