A subgenre of horror that has been around for longer than anyone can remember is Satanic film. The name suggests it involves themes relating to the Devil or Devil worship. The love for this genre stands in contrast with the devotion people have towards Christ, and if a person is fascinated by the Bible and biblical references, they are likely to enjoy the dark side of it. Some well-known films from this genre include ‘Devil’ (2010), ‘The Witch’ (2015), ‘The Exorcist’ (1973), ‘Jennifer’s Body’ (2009), ‘The Blackcoat’s Daughter’ (2015), and many more. Another movie that is soon to be added to this long list is coming to Blu-ray and Video on Demand (VOD) on June 12th of this year.
What we know about the film and plot details so far
Titled ‘Baphomet,’ this film tells the story of an American family that unwillingly enters a good versus evil battle after they refuse to give away their land to a cult leader. Dealing with the family’s curses by the cult and struggling with the pregnant daughter, the powerless people seek help from a witch and find out the horrifying reason why the cult leader is so hellbent on getting their land. There is no trailer available for the film yet, but Cradle of Filth, an extreme metal band, frontman Dani Filth talks about the character he plays in the film in brief. Stating that the pre-production for ‘Baphomet’ began in 2013, director Matthan Harris reveals that it has been one of the longest projects he has been so committed to. On this, Filth elaborates that the character he plays is perfect for him. He also mentions rock God Ozzy Osborne and claims that the irony of him playing a priest in ‘Trick or Treat’ (1986) is similar to that of Filth playing the role of an Occult Investigator in ‘Baphomet.’

The Bible and history of the Crusades plays a significant role in the film’s name
The film’s title comes from the statue of Baphomet, an idol of a deity that was embraced as a part of the Occult soon after the Knight Templars, who people labelled as heretics, were accused of worshipping it. Baphomet is a hermaphrodite with wings and has the head and feet of a goat, but the body of a man and the reason it was made to look like that is to reflect its pervasive duality. The film ‘Baphomet’ stars, alongside Dani Filth, Giovanni Lombardo Radice (‘Cannibal Ferox,’ 1981), author Colin Ward (‘Anarchy in Action,’ 1973), Stephen Brodie (‘Segfault,’ 2017), and Charlotte Bjornbak (‘Cannibal Corpse Killers,’ 2017).
