In 1998, director Stephen Norrington gave fantasy films a new twist with the coolest vampire hunter, probably only second to Buffy! This started what we know today as the Blade trilogy. The first film titled ‘Blade’ introduces us to the character that is half human and half immortal. Using high end weaponry and his advanced skillset, Blade goes on a quest to end vampires in order to avenge his mother’s killing. However, we see tables turning in the second film, ‘Blade II’ (2002) where the protagonist has no option but to team up with the vampires as something even more sinister threatens the world. In 2004, the third film titled ‘Blade: Trinity’ released and we see Blade once again at war with the vampires who have now resorted to more sophisticated methods of defaming him. In order to reach his goal, Blade teams up with a group of vampire hunters gone rogue.
All the details we have gathered about the film so far
Two-time academy award winner Mahershala Ali is all set to star in the new Blade reboot that will be a more central part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier, this role was fulfilled by Wesley Snipes and it seems as though just like the recasting of the role, the film will also get some fresh takes that will have it connecting somewhat to the world of the Avengers. Not a lot of information apart from the lead casting was known up until now but recently, The Hollywood Reporter has informed fans that the screenplay for the film will be penned by none other than Stacy Osei-Kuffour. For those who do not know, Stacy was also the scribe for HBO’s ‘Watchmen’, based on the film with the same title. She is going to walk the path paved for black women in the world of Marvel by Nia DaCosta (currently working on ‘Captain Marvel II’), who was the first black female director for Marvel.

How Marvel is laying the groundwork for its fourth phase
As Phase IV of the MCU is slowly gaining traction with the mind-boggling adventures of Wanda and Vision in the show, it is clear that Marvel is not going to be slowed down despite Iron Man and Black Widow’s ill-fates, Hawkeye and Captain America’s retirements, Hulk and Banner coming to an understanding and Thor giving up his crown. The setting up of this new phase is just as carefully curated as the previous phases and the addition of ‘Blade’, even if it may not involve the protagonist directly in the MCU and only in the extended universe, will make it better.
