Quentin Tarantino’s film ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ was released in 2019, and like many of his other films, it was received quite well at the box office. Starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, this comedy-drama tells Rick and Cliff’s story, trying to regain fame and success in 1960s LA. Now, Tarantino has opened up about the horror hidden within this comedy film, even going so far as to say that it is better than Jonathan Demme’s ‘The Silence of the Lambs.’ Hardly anyone is a stranger to this iconic film starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster exploring the psychology behind serial killings to catch the perpetrator. In a recent interview with Empire Film Podcast, Tarantino discusses a particular scene from the Spahn Ranch, which he believes was more terrifying than one could realise.

Why the ‘Pulp Fiction’ director made this bold statement
We see Cliff (played by Brad Pitt) arrive at Spahn’s Movie Ranch, which once used to be a Hollywood favourite but is now nothing more than a ghost town. Nothing outright scary happens, but there is something about how the ambiance makes a sudden shift, making the scene incredibly unsettling. The ranch people are odd and almost behave like a cult with their mob mentality, but the real genius here is the set. George’s house is placed within the ranch premises, but something about the isolated way in which it stands gives the audience the same feel that looking at Norman Bates’ house in Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ did. More importantly, Quentin believes that the scene from ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ where Clarice confronts Buffalo Bill is suspenseful, but the Spahn Ranch scene from ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is terrifying.
Claiming that the thin line between the two is “razor-thin” but “wide as the Grand Canyon,” the filmmaker believes that he was sure that Bill would not kill Clarice. The situation that Cliff was in could end with him dying. Alongside Pitt and DiCaprio, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ also stars Margot Robbie, Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, and Margaret Qualley.
