Where Can I Watch France (2021)?

France is a 2021 internationally co-produced drama film, written and directed by Bruno Dumont. It stars Léa Seydoux, Blanche Gardin, Benjamin Biolay, Emanuele Arioli, Juliane Köhler, Gaëtan Amiel, Jewad Zemmar and Marc Bettinelli.

France” follows the life the country’s No. 1 hot-shot TV anchor, France de Meurs (Seydoux, of course), who hosts a nightly news broadcast in between the odd jaunt to stage-managed “war-zones” to boost her credibility. She enjoys fame so much, she, even with the ISIS-fighting soldiers, cares about having the best shot of her in each frame.

Her assistant, Lou, keeps checking Twitter for best comments to boost her boss’ ego. But soon her career, home life, and psychological stability are turned upside down when she hits a poor man (Jawad Zemmar) on a scooter with her car and people immediately recognize her and start filming them with their phones.

It’s a turning point for the incredibly rich celebrity, as she plunges into a kind of existential crisis when she becomes the subject of news items herself, suffering from what other terrible journalists write about her.

As France attempts to slow down and retreat into a simpler, anonymous life, her fame continues to pursue her. Starting out as a tragicomic satire of the news media, writer-director Bruno Dumont’s provocative new film spirals out into something darker as it examines the difficulty of maintaining one’s sense of self in a corrosive culture. At last, “France” is an excellent and mind-blowing film that opens up the door to the unsettling world of journalism.
