Bird Box was Netflix’s massive hit in the sci-fi horror genre with a 6.6 IMDb rating. Starring Sandra Bullock, it portrays the story of a mother and her children embarking on a dangerous journey seeking sanctuary from unknown entities that force those who look at them to commit suicide. Through the course of its 4-week launch, the film had more than 89 million streams, making it a smashing hit. Much to our surprise Deadline reported that a Spanish-language spinoff is in the making which might not be exactly how you would predict.
What we know about the project so far:
Spanish duo Alex and David Pastor will be writing and directing the project. If you think you have heard those names before it is because you have. The two have worked on thriller The Occupant and Carriers on Netflix as well as Incorporated, a Syfy show. Even though the movie is said to have Bird Box producers Dylan Clark (The Batman) and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw), the site also says that it will have a noticeably Spanish flavor.

Developmental stages:
It is going to be the first spinoff that could go global in a planned franchise. It would tell the story from a different point of view. “Producing for Spanish outfit Nostromo Pictures will be Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls, producers of The Occupant and Spanish hit The Invisible Guest. Guerra is also well known as the producer of Ryan Reynolds box office breakout Buried.” The production of the spinoff, that is yet to be named, will begin in Spain towards the end of this year.
