Created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938, The Addams Family is the fictional household every goth fan has wanted to adopt. A wealthy family that indulges in the macabre freely without caring about what the rest of society thinks was the perfect satire to contradict the conventional 20th century family. Today, it has become an aesthetic of its own. The Addams Family consists of parents Gomez and Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Uncle Fester and Grandmama, and some extended family and some pets. There have been many films, animation, TV series and games on the Addams Family that everyone has thoroughly enjoyed, and now, a new Netflix series revolving around Wednesday Addams is on its way.
The details we have so far
Reported to be in development in October of last year, this live-action ordered by Netflix will consist of eight episodes, exploring Wednesday Addams’ character in depth. Trying to balance her school life at Nevermore Academy and her emerging psychic powers, Wednesday will attempt to solve the supernatural mysteries of an ongoing murder spree in her town. The series is being created and executive produced by Miles Millar (Into the Badlands, 2015) and Alfred Gough (Smallville, 2001), while legendary gothic director Tim Burton is set to direct. Burton has worked with the genre of macabre, mystery, goth, horror and fantasy for a long and today. He stands as a bar that newcomer filmmakers of the genre must try and match up to.
