American science-fiction show Quantum Leap ran for five seasons from 1989 to 1993. Created by Donald P Bellisario, this show revolves around a scientist who gets stuck in the past due to a failed government experiment on time travel. He has no choice but to “leap” from one body to another, dealing with each of their problems while also trying to find a way back home, to his own timeline. The show received a lot of mixed reviews due to its controversial ending where Dr Sam Beckett, played by Emmy-winning actor Scott Bakula, never makes it back home. The actor has stated recently that if a series reboot or sequel were to happen, he would be more than happy about it.
Possibilities that the show could explore:
In conversation with TV Line, Bakula said that the show would have such great potential due to it being about being in someone else’s shoes as it is very relevant given today’s socio-political scenario. He also believes that Sam’s innocence would do well to be preserved in case of a new series as that gave it a very sweet touch, but would be happy with whatever the new makers would want to do with it. Some of the most common ideas about a new show being passed around is the idea that Sam’s kid would be the lead. Given how he went back and forth a few times and met his wife, it would make sense. Another is that since he is technically still stuck in between timelines, more tales can be woven out of his adventures. Actor Bakula seems to find comfort in the fact that Dr Sam is still out there, getting things fixed.
