A re-creation of Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz’s 2014 film Goodnight Mommy has been in the cards since 2018, with the venture now set up at Amazon Studios with casting ongoing. It has been reported that Naomi Watts, who, of course, featured in the brilliant American remake of The Ring, will star in the leading role in Amazon’s new take on Goodnight Mommy.
The creators
Watts will executive produce the English-language re-creation of the Austrian film. Original filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are also on the panel as executive producers. Kyle Warren has written the new script, and Matt Sobel will direct the film.

About the movie
The story of Goodnight Mommy is Elias, and his twin brother Lukas reach their mother’s house in search of her face enclosed in bandages. The result, she clarifies, of recent cosmetic surgery—Lukas pleasures in their mother’s unusually negligent house instructions. But in Elias’ mind, a terrible thought takes cause: the tumbling doubt that this woman underneath the gauze, who’s making their food and sleeping in the next room, is not truly their mother.
