This autumn, TBS will air the remaining episodes of season 17 of American Dad! The cable network has posted a trailer for the animated series’ upcoming comeback. Seasons 18 and 19 have already been ordered for the program. Since other TBS shows were canceled following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, the future of the series had been in doubt.
The comedy follows a CIA weapons specialist (Seth MacFarlane) and his housemates. It also features the voices of Wendy Schaal, Scott Grimes, Rachael MacFarlane, Jeff Fischer, Dee Bradley Baker, and Patrick Stewart.
At San Diego Comic Con, TBS announced that on September 5 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT, new episodes of Cable’s #2 comedy “American Dad!” will return.
Stan Smith, a fiercely patriotic CIA agent (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), and his unorthodox family’s antics in Langley Falls, Virginia, are the focus of American Dad! Stan uses the same extreme means employed in his work at the CIA in his personal life, where his blissfully naive wife Francine (Wendy Schaal) maintains an unwavering commitment that prevents her from seeing his blatant arrogance.
Contrary to her clueless, well-intentioned husband Jeff (Jeff Fischer), his left-wing activist daughter Hayley (Rachael MacFarlane) doesn’t let him off so easy and understands precisely how to press her father’s buttons. Son Steve (Scott Grimes) is a geeky yet self-assured youngster who enjoys playing video games and worrying about the other sex. Two somewhat unusual members complete the Smith cabinet: Klaus (Dee Bradley Baker), an attention-starved goldfish with the mind of a German Olympic skier, and Roger (MacFarlane), a caustic, snarky, and sometimes inappropriate space extraterrestrial.
This season also has a special guest cast that includes Terry Crews as Heinrich Brown, a vicious insurance adjuster determined to bring reckless drivers to punishment, and Jared Harris as Merlin, a multifaceted wizard who is active, constantly on the go, and busy. Laurie Metcalf as Eilzabeth, a renowned egg scientist and researcher at Groff Community College; Merlin, who, although being the most powerful entity in his world, nonetheless relies on a crew of staff to manage his myriad projects and appearances; Patti Harrison plays Ali, a pretty cool sophomore girl who pops ghost peppers like they’re nothing and believes love doesn’t exist. Jason Isaacs plays Jumpers, the leader of a cunning gang of frogs, who is as nasty as he is seductive and will do anything to ensure he gets what he wants. She has Steve attracted.
Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman created the animated comedy from 20th Television Animation, and they are all executive producers along with co-showrunner Brian Boyle.
